Victory secures European Championship A Pool place
GB’s Under 15s claimed a second thumping win which has secured the country’s place in the A Pool for next European Championship.
Ian Griebenow’s squad beat Belgium 15-0 thanks to a one hit shut out thrown by pitcher Jeremy Kirk.
Kirk’s effort, which included six strikeouts and no walks, saw him throw just 42 pitches, 31 for strikes. The one Belgian hit came in the first inning, but from then on Kirk was perfect.
At the plate, Ted Conway went 3 for 3, there were triples for Jacob Henry and Taylor Wormington and doubles for Griff Franklin, Liam Ust and Kyle Griebenow.
Head Coach Ian Griebenow said after the game: “This was another cracking performance. To secure top stream baseball for next European Championship with a game still to go is testament to how hard this team has worked. We are looking forward to tomorrow’s final match up against France and want to make sure we win again to finish the tournament on a high.”
Glen Robertson, British Baseball Federation’s National Teams Programme Official, added:
“Every player, coach and staff member on the GB U15s deserves our warmest thanks and congratulations for what has been achieved in Trieste. After suffering a tough loss on day one, this team picked themselves up off the ground and demonstrated resilience, team work and skill to get GB back into the tournament.”
